Please note that the exam rooms for
Physics 103 listed in My-UW may not agree with the rooms posted on the
Physics 103 Web page. This is because someone in the University, in an
attempt to be helpful, assigned exam rooms according to which lecture
you attend rather than which discussion. Therefore, please ignore the
room posted on My-UW and plan to take your exam in the appropriate room
as listed at http://tycho.physics.wisc.edu/courses/phys103/spring07/finrooms.html.
The exam is at 2:45 pm on Monday. The exam will last 2 hours, and you
are allowed TWO 8.5x11" sheets of handwritten notes. Good luck!

The first midterm exam is at 5:45-7 pm on
Thursday, February 22nd. It will be a multiple-choice exam with 20
questions covering the material in Chapters 1-4 of the text, about half
conceptual and half numerical. See the practice
exams from previous semesters as an indication of what to expect.
Our best advice for preparing for the exam is to work the practice
exams under simulated exam conditions with a 75-minute time limit with
only your calculator and sheet of notes. Then look at the solutions,
grade yourself, and try to understand why you missed the questions that
you missed. Please read and observe the general
instructions and plan to arrive at the correct room about ten
minutes before the exam begins. You will need to know your 10-digit
student ID-number and your 3-digit section number, which begins with a
3. The exam will end promptly at 7 pm, at which time you will be asked
to turn in your exam and answer sheet to your TA. We will try to get
the grades posted over the weekend and will email you when they are
available so that you do not need to keep checking. Good luck!

Welcome to Physics 103 for the Spring
2007 semester. If you were registered early, you should
be able to log in with your 10 digit UW Student ID as your login
name with a password of "103" (without the quotes). You can change your
password on the Gradebook page for more security. If you have
difficulty, please
follow the instructions on the login Help page.
There are two identical
lectures in the course at 9:55 and 11:00 AM on Monday and Wednesday in
2301 Chamberlin. You may
attend either or both.
Please browse the web
pages. Much of the course work will rely on the web for feedback and
information. Therefore, it is mandatory that you are familiar with it.
In particular, get familiar with the Planner
that you will use to keep track of course activity (work and
deadlines).
Also read the Syllabus page for an overview of the course. That page also gives details about the course rules and
structure, suggests outside resources
and tells about exams and grading. We will have class participation in lecture, so come
prepared to think and learn.
The homework and first lecture preflight are open
now.
The first lectures are on
Monday, Jan 22 at 9:55 and 11:00 AM.
The first
discussion sections
will meet on Tuesday, Jan 23.
The first lecture preflight
is due Wednesday, Jan 24 at 9 AM.
The first labs will meet the week of Jan 29 (no labs the first week).
The first homework assignment is
due on Wednesday, Jan 31 at 5 PM.
