For an explanation of the curve and how letter grades correspond to curved scores, see the Course Description page, under Grading. Finsal letter grades will be posted on this site Wednesday evening, if no unforseen problems arise. It will proabbly take them a little longer to appear in MyUW.

The exam
and answer keys have been posted on the Practice Exams page. A histogram is also available. Solutions will soon follow.

The Answer Strings listed in the gradebook are your answers as read from your answer sheet by the scanner. The scanner encodes an A as 1, B as 2, C as 3, etc., so you will see a string of numbers instead of letters. FYI, I have seen hundreds of thousands of answers scanned by this machine with never a single known error. The probability of the machine having made an error with your answer sheet is therefore vanishly small.

Welcome to Physics 103 for the Fall 2005 semester. If you were registered by the 24th of August, you should be able to log in with your 10 digit UW Student ID as both your login and password. You can change your password on the Gradebook page. If you have difficulty, please follow the instructions on the login Help page.

Although students can attend either lecture section, we encourage students to attend in the lecture section they are registered for, or to attend the second lecture if possible, as the first lecture tends to be crowded. If you are concerned that the first lecture (1:20 MW) is full and you cannot attend the second lecture, go ahead and register for the second lecture (2:25 MW) and plan to attend the first.

Please browse the web pages. Much of the course work will rely on the web for feedback and information. Therefore, it is mandatory that you are familiar with it. In particular, get familiar with the Planner that you will use to keep track of course activity (work and deadlines). Also read the Course Description page -- it explains the course rules and structure, gives helpful study tips and tells about exams and grading.

We will have class participation in lecture, so come prepared to think and learn.

The first lecture "pre-flight" is due Wednesday, Sept 7, 11 AM (yes, before the first lecture).
The first lectures are on Wednesday, Sept 7, 1:20 PM and 2:25 PM.
The first labs will meet the week of Sept 11 (no labs the weeks of Aug 29 and Sept 5).

The first discussion sections will meet on Tuesday, September 6 (before the first lectures).
The first homework assignment is due on Wednesday, September 14, 11 AM
The homework
assignments and the first lecture preflight are open now.
